What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese term. “Rei,” universal. “Ki,” life energy. This vital energy that is in everything is called elementary bosons and fermions (subatomic particles) in the physics framework of understanding.
This universal life force energy is also known as prana, qi, gi, nagual, and tao…among many other terms.
When I say I’m a Reiki practitioner, it means I work with this universal life force energy to help clients heal. If you called me an energy healer or light worker, you wouldn’t be wrong.
What comes to mind when you think of the word light?
Visible light? UV rays? Infrared? Microwaves? Radio waves? X-rays? All of these types of light are found on the electromagnetic spectrum (electromagnetism is one of the four fundamental forces…gravity is the weakest but the most known of the four).
As a Reiki practitioner/light worker/energy healer, my role is similar to a radio. I tune into a specific high frequency and broadcast it to the human/animal/being that I’m working with. This attention is called the observer affect in the physics framework of understanding.
Every practitioner is different, but when I direct this high frequency light to a client’s body, I ask their energetic field (aka higher self) to work with me so that the Reiki may infuse the part of the physical and emotional bodies that is for the greatest good of the recipient. This is why energy healing is so versatile. The high frequency light helps restore balance to whatever needs it—to heal on the cellular and energetic level. From repetitive thought patterns that do not serve, to physical disease, Reiki restores peace and harmony in systems.
Currently, Reiki is defined by the mainstream as pseudoscience. I believe this is because 1) a lot of Reiki involves quantum mechanics, which exists in the uncomfortable space that questions the paradigm of scientific materialism 2) colonization. We all know how numerous indigenous practices have been wiped out/stigmatized, in service to hierarchical power systems (if you don’t, Rabbit Proof Fence is coming to mind as one film to watch).
Reiki lives in the neighborhood of Christ consciousness and radical compassion. It’s a frequency that can transform your life from the inside out. If you’re interested in learning more, Tender Hearts is here to support. Book a Reiki session with Gillian or myself.
